The Toy Shop Advent Calendar from The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Celebrate the season with this delightful pop-up Advent calendar! Each day in December leading up to Christmas, open one of 24 windows to reveal toy soldiers, stuffed animals, candy canes, and more, all arranged around an image of a vintage toy shop. The charming illustrations and intricate pop-up construction make for a truly special daily commemoration of the holiday season.

All the images shown come from the American Artists Group archive. Founded in 1935 with the support of artists and illustrators such as Lorraine Fox, Witold Gordon, and Carl Tait, American Artists Group was one of the first organizations to introduce fine art to greeting cards. Many of their original cards and sample books are part of The Metropolitan Museum's Jefferson R. Burdick collection, which tells the history of popular printmaking in America through more than 300,000 pieces of ephemera.
